Interior Design Tips!

Design Tips from Elite Interiors & Design

When creating a design concept, you need a theme- an inspiration- a drive for what you are trying to create in your mind and then display in your selection. Starting with your choice of color, style, etc., becomes your foundation. That base is what you will use to develop further into your concept.

You could fall in love with a color, a style, or a material and know it is what you must have in your home. Ask yourself, why do I like this? What about this calls to me? When you can answer that, you can ask yourself- Do I want this all over my home? Is it a statement piece? How do I want to incorporate this into my home overall?

When making one of these design concepts, we recommend putting all your materials together to visualize the flow. Before making decisions on what looks good or not- a color or style can look great on its own but look awful in the context of the whole design. For example, you could find the most gorgeous cabinet doors you’ve ever seen, but if you add them to the rest of your design and they don’t pair well, the cabinets suddenly feel very out of place.

The last note we want to leave you with is to not be too hasty in your decision-making process. You may come to find you dislike your design concept by the end of putting it together, but in reality, it could be one material throwing everything off. So, once you completed a concept, take a step back- ask yourself the questions above. Leave it alone for at least 10-15 minutes to give yourself time to figure out if you actually need to make a change or if you have just finalized your design concept.
